President Yoweri Museveni has dropped a total of 28 ministers in the latest Cabinet appointments as Uganda ushers in the new 2026–2031 term.
The reshuffle, announced on Tuesday, saw several long-serving and senior government officials left out of the new Cabinet lineup.
Among the most notable exits is former Finance Minister Matia Kasaija, who has served in the powerful docket for years. Also dropped is former Foreign Affairs Minister Jeje Odongo and former Gender Minister Betty Amongi.
Veteran politician and former Second Deputy Prime Minister Moses Ali was also left out of the new Cabinet. Moses Ali has been part of Uganda’s government since the regime of former president Idi Amin.
Others dropped include former Energy Minister Ruth Nankabirwa, Government Chief Whip Hamson Obua, Public Service Minister Muruuli Mukasa, Local Government Minister Raphael Magyezi and Internal Affairs State Minister David Muhoozi.
Meanwhile, former Defence Minister Jacob Marksons Oboth-Oboth was replaced after being elected Speaker of Parliament on Monday.
Other ministers dropped from Cabinet include Peter Lokeris, Francis Mwebesa, Sam Cheptoris, Kenneth Omona, Florence Nambozo, Jenipher Namuyangu, Fred Bwiino Kyagulaga, Hellen Adoa, Joyce Moriku Kaducu, Evelyn Anite, John Mulimba, Peace Mutuzo, Hellen Asamo, Gidudu Mafabi, Godfrey Kabbyanga, Obiga Kania, Martin Mugarra, Fredrick Gume and Musa Ecweru.
