First Lady Janet Museveni has publicly spoken for the first time in months, expressing gratitude to Ugandans for their prayers and support during her recovery from illness.

In a message shared on June 25, 2026, Mrs Museveni thanked the nation for standing with her during a period that kept her away from public view. Her remarks came on the same day President Yoweri Museveni appointed State Minister for Higher Education John Chrysostom Muyingo as the acting Minister of Education and Sports.
The appointment was announced by State House, which said Muyingo would oversee the ministry’s operations in the absence of a substantive minister. The move follows a period of uncertainty regarding the leadership of the ministry as Mrs Museveni remained out of the public eye.
In her heartfelt message, the First Lady described her recovery as a testimony of faith and divine intervention. “It’s me, Janet Museveni. It is a confirmation that the God I talk about is a living God. He is not a myth, He lives!” she said.
She went on to thank President Museveni, whom she referred to as “Mzee,” and the entire country for their continued prayers and encouragement.
“I must therefore thank Uganda, beginning with Mzee, who has prayed with the whole nation. Thank you all for coming out publicly to pray for me. Thank you for all those continuous prayers and also for the kind birthday wishes. Thank you for letting me know just how much I am loved,” she said.
