Singer Gravity Omutujju, real name Gereson Wabuyi, has opened up about the roots of his long-standing conflict with fellow artist and now politician Bobi Wine, born Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu.
Gravity shared the details during an interview on the Talk and Talk Show hosted by Kasuku on Saturday.
According to Gravity, the bad blood began around 2017 when Bobi Wine’s team approached him with an invitation to perform at his MP political rally in Kiteeezi. The only thing Gravity asked for was a little fuel money—nothing more. But what happened next sparked into a rivalry
“Since then, Bobi Wine and I haven’t seen eye to eye,” Gravity revealed.
The latest clash occurred after Bobi Wine condemned the alleged allocation of a UGX 15 billion grant from the government to support Ugandan artists.
Bobi Wine argued that the funds could have been better used to build essential infrastructure, such as a hospital like Kiruddu.
Gravity fired back, suggesting that if Bobi Wine is genuinely concerned about public welfare, he should use his Busabala land to construct a hospital for the local community.
The rivalry took another turn earlier this year when Gravity’s song “Doboozi Lya Mutuuze,” which was allegedly inspired by the melody of Bobi Wine’s 2006 hit “Kiwaani,” was removed from YouTube over copyright infringement claims.
In his interview with Kasuku, Gravity Omutujju confidently stated that he isn’t worried about his ongoing feud with Bobi Wine affecting the turnout at his upcoming show, Embaga Ya Isma n’amina, set for September 7, 2024, at the Cricket Oval.
He pointed out that many artists have experienced poor turnouts at their concerts, regardless of whether they had Bobi Wine’s endorsement or not.
It’s worth noting that Bobi Wine’s brother, Mikie Wine, is also scheduled to hold his concert, Tusaabale, on the same day at Jahazi Pier.
