Vinka has opened up about one of the darkest moments of her music career, revealing that harsh criticism after she replaced Irene Ntale at Swangz Avenue pushed her into depression.

Speaking about her journey, Vinka said many people doubted she had what it takes to build a successful and sustainable music career following Irene Ntale’s departure from the record label.
The constant negative comments, coupled with pressure from the industry, took a heavy toll on her mental health despite the preparation she had received from Swangz Avenue before making the transition from artist manager to singer.
“I even thought someone was sending the critics because it was too much. People criticised my strong voice and told me to go back into management. Also, because I used to let our artists perform after the balance was cleared to zero, I had some people in the industry and media fighting me,” Vinka said.
Before stepping into the spotlight, Vinka worked as Irene Ntale’s manager at Swangz Avenue, overseeing the singer’s career until Ntale exited the label.
She later made the bold switch from behind-the-scenes management to performing, a move that initially attracted skepticism but eventually saw her establish herself as one of Uganda’s most successful female artists with a string of hit songs.
