After years of sharing their love story with the public, Ugandan socialite and entrepreneur Zari Hassan has announced that she and her husband, Shakib Lutaaya, have ended their relationship.
The couple, who exchanged vows in a private wedding ceremony in South Africa in April 2023, had been together for approximately five years. Their relationship often attracted public attention, with fans closely following their journey across social media.
Zari broke the news through a statement posted on her Instagram Stories, revealing that the decision to separate was reached after careful consideration. She explained that the couple had chosen to go their separate ways because of irreconcilable differences but stressed that there was no hostility between them.
In the statement, Zari noted that they remain grateful for the memories they created together and the support they offered one another throughout the relationship. She added that sometimes people grow in different directions despite their best efforts to make things work, and wished Shakib happiness and success in the future.
Speculation about trouble in their marriage had been growing in recent months as the pair kept a lower profile compared to previous years. The demands of a long-distance relationship may also have played a role, with Zari largely based in South Africa while Shakib spent most of his time in Uganda.
As news of the split continues to circulate online, Shakib has yet to publicly respond to Zari’s announcement or issue a statement regarding the end of their marriage.
