Buganda Kingdom Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga has once again defended his controversial decision to ban music by Lil Pazo and Gravity Omutujju from playing on BBS Television and CBS FM, saying the move was actually meant to help the two artists build lasting careers.
Speaking as he reflected on his 13 years of service as Buganda Kingdom’s premier, Mayiga argued that musicians who rely on vulgar content risk damaging their future in the entertainment industry.
“How old will Lil Pazo be in 2036? He’s like 36 now and he’d be 45 by that time, will he be singing the same things? We are helping them,” Mayiga said.
He added that even discussing the artists publicly was part of helping them improve their craft and grow into respected creatives.
“Even speaking about Lil Pazo or Gravity Omutujju, I’m helping them because if we build them and they become big creatives, it’s them to benefit and not me,” he explained.
Mayiga further warned that vulgar music may attract temporary excitement from fans but eventually harms an artist’s long-term relevance.
“When you say vulgar things especially at a concert, these people who come drunk and all that and make noise for you, it buries you instead because they are the same people who will leave you in the end,” he said.
According to the Katikkiro, artists should focus on creating timeless music that can still connect with audiences years later rather than chasing short-lived trends.
“People outgrow stupid things. Lil Pazo needs to find things he will be able to sing at 50. Music is like a river, it flows now and then. If you think only about that specific show you are at and become vulgar, it’s like you’re saying that’s the end for you,” he added.
