Coco Finger has shared his candid view on the current state of the music industry, arguing that success today is driven more by luck and media backing than raw talent.
Speaking during a recent discussion, Coco Finger pointed out that many modern artists are thriving despite lacking fundamental musical skills such as singing ability or proficiency with instruments.
According to him, the industry has shifted its focus toward producing hit songs rather than nurturing well-rounded musicians.
“Many artists today cannot sing or play instruments, but they have made it and have hit songs in their catalogs,” he said. “This industry is all about hit songs. As long as one has hits, one gets bookings and has a wide fan base.”
While acknowledging the importance of musical skills, Coco Finger emphasized that they are no longer a strict requirement for success. He explained that artists who can play instruments have an added advantage, but those without such skills still dominate a significant portion of the industry.
“But of course, as an artist, if you can play instruments, it’s an added advantage,” he added. “It doesn’t necessarily mean that those who can’t play instruments can’t make it; they are a big percentage, actually.”
The singer further highlighted the role of media platforms in amplifying artists regardless of vocal ability, noting that promotion often outweighs talent in determining who breaks through.
“The media still promotes them, and they make it even with bad vocals. Luck is involved, and everyone has their own chance,” he stated.
