Musician and National Unity Platform (NUP) member Nubian Li has finally been officially declared the Mayor of Nakawa Division following a prolonged and delayed vote tallying process.
Taking to his Facebook page shortly after the announcement, an excited Nubian Li confirmed the news, writing, “Eventually and officially declared Mayor Nakawa!”
Nubian Li, a close friend and longtime associate of NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, emerged victorious after defeating incumbent mayor Paul Mugambe in a tightly watched contest.
The race attracted significant public attention, especially after Mugambe failed to secure the NUP party ticket, which was instead handed to Nubian Li. Mugambe subsequently opted to contest as an independent candidate but suffered a decisive defeat.
The delayed vote count had kept supporters and observers waiting anxiously, but the final results have now cemented Nubian Li’s transition from music to political leadership in Nakawa Division.
