Former Assistant Inspector General of Police, Asan Kasingye, has ignited a firestorm of controversy with a scathing statement condemning the behavior of young women at a recent concert featuring Congolese artist Ya Levis.
Kasingye’s statement, released on social media, described the women’s actions as “an embarrassment to Uganda” and accused them of betraying the feminist cause.
He questioned the objectification of men and women in public performances and raised concerns about sexual exploitation.
“You are an embarrassment to Uganda. You betrayed the feminist cause. I mean have men now become a beautiful animal to grope live on stage? BTW, if this was a woman being fondled in public by young boys, what would you be saying all over SM?,” reads the tweet, in part.
“Hold on, how many boys do you rape away from live cameras in those dark discotheque halls? You’ve let down your sisters, mothers, aunties and some of you; your children. Roll over in shame!”
The statement has sparked a heated debate, with some supporting Kasingye’s views on decency and respect, while others have criticized his tone and language as judgmental and sexist.
Concertgoers and fans of Ya Levis have defended their actions at Serena, saying they were simply enjoying themselves and expressing their admiration for the artist.
