Uganda’s Under 17 National Football team, the Cubs have been pitted in group B of the upcoming U17 African Cup of Nations CECAFA Qualifiers in Ethiopia.
The Cubs will face Djibouti, Rwanda, Sudan and Burundi in group stages of the tournament set to run between 30th September – 15th October 2022 in Addis Ababa.
Ahead of this tournament, Uganda entered residential camp at FUFA Technical Center, Njeru more than two weeks ago and are under the stewardship of coach Hamza Lutalo who will be assisted by Brian Ssenyondo.
A final Ugandan squad will be released by the technical team after players have all undergone and passed various medical tests including MRI, collection of data and passport processing.
Apart from group B, hosts Ethiopia have been pitted in group A alongside Tanzania, Eritrea, Somalia and South Sudan.
The two finalists from this zonal tournament will qualify for the 2023 AFCON U17 final that will be held in Algeria.
Uganda qualified for the 2021 AFCON tournament in Morocco but it was cancelled before start due to the Coronavirus pandemic that struck the whole globe.
Group A: Ethiopia, Tanzania, Eritrea, Somalia, South Sudan
Group B: Uganda, Djibouti, Rwanda, Sudan, Burundi
