Being the favourite one heading into the race, Olympic champion Peruth Chemutai settled for 3000m steeplechase bronze for Uganda at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth games on Friday evening at the Alexander Stadium.
Persistent Chemutai fell over a barrier in the race leading to her failure to collect her first Commonwealth gold title for Uganda with Kenya’s Jackline Chepkoech collecting the Gold after making a championship record time of 9minutes and 9.15.68 sec and Elizabeth Bird coming in second at 9:17.79 sec

A 9:23.24 sec run with an injury just to finish perfect, this was Chemutai’s best run race this year after finishing 11th at the Oregon Worlds due to a bacterial infection in the stomach.
Chemutai’s bronze makes it four medals for team Uganda at the Championship aftet Victor Kiplangat’s marathon gold and Jacob Kiplimo’s 10000m gold.
Female Boxer Teddy Nakimuli is also assured of a medal of either gold, Silver or Bronze after earning a bye to the semifinals of the Women’s Light Flyweight when her opponent failed to make the required weight.
