How Miss Universe Kenya creative director ended up with Miss Universe Uganda crown, the story of Mitchell Daka

Mitchell Daka’s historic coronation as Miss Universe Uganda should have been a moment of pure celebration. Instead, it has sparked heated debate among pageant fans, with some questioning the circumstances surrounding her victory.

Before claiming Uganda’s biggest beauty crown, Daka was serving as Creative Director for Miss Universe Kenya. Since both the Ugandan and Kenyan pageants operate under the same ownership, she played an active role in the Kenyan competition while simultaneously contesting for the Miss Universe Uganda title.

Her fashion label, FiguresTheBrand was also responsible for styling the Miss Universe Kenya contestants during their boot camp, placing her at the heart of the Kenyan pageant as preparations unfolded.

Unlike many contestants who spent weeks in camp competing for the crown in Uganda, Daka was frequently in Kenya fulfilling her creative duties. Despite her absence from much of the local pageant activities, she remained in the competition and ultimately emerged the winner.

Her dual role has since become the centre of public discussion with critics questioning whether it created an unfair advantage while supporters argue that her experience, professionalism and confidence simply made her the strongest contestant. Either way, Mitchell Daka is the first ever has Miss Universe Uganda.
