Ugandan singer Joshua Baraka has opened up about what he describes as one of the best days of his life, recalling an unforgettable encounter with world-renowned DJ and producer Diplo during his unexpected visit to Uganda.
Speaking in a recent interview, Joshua revealed that Diplo accidentally landed in Kampala during the Coachella season and immediately reached out to him on Instagram. However, Joshua initially missed the direct messages.
“Mr. Eazi then called me saying that Diplo was in Uganda and he wanted to link up. At first I couldn’t believe it because there was no way,” Joshua recounted.
Realizing the rare opportunity before them, Joshua and his friend, DJ Spinny, quickly began planning how they could convince the Grammy-winning producer to perform a set before catching his flight back to the United States, where he was scheduled to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival later that day.
According to Joshua, Diplo wanted to record a DJ set while experiencing the vibrant atmosphere of Kampala. DJ Spinny handled all the logistics, including transportation, lighting, and securing the venue, while ensuring their guest got a true taste of the city’s bustling downtown.
“He later did his set and it was so crazy. I couldn’t believe I was there. That was one of my best days in life,” Joshua said.
The “Nana” hitmaker added that the experience left a lasting impression on him, praising Diplo for embracing spontaneous adventures.
“I enjoyed myself so much and appreciated how Diplo is the king of side quests,” he said.
Joshua explained that the entire experience reminded him of the beauty of having the freedom to make spontaneous decisions and simply enjoy life without overthinking every moment.
After the memorable performance, the team rushed Diplo to the airport, driving as quickly as possible to ensure he caught his flight in time for his Coachella appearance later that day.
