Singer and politician Kalifah AgaNaga has claimed that only a few current Members of Parliament can match his academic performance during his high school years.
AgaNaga argued that entertainers are often underestimated, yet many possess the intelligence and leadership abilities needed to serve in top government positions.
“I bet if there is any Member of Parliament in the Ugandan Parliament who was brighter than me while in high school,” AgaNaga said, challenging the perception that musicians cannot excel in leadership roles.
The singer made the remarks while defending the capabilities of artists who venture into politics, saying talent and intelligence are not limited to traditional political figures.
AgaNaga previously contested for the Kawempe North parliamentary seat in a by-election held after the death of former MP Muhammad Ssegirinya, representing the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC). However, he lost the race and later raised concerns about the conduct of the election.
Following the polls, AgaNaga publicly expressed dissatisfaction with the process, claiming he had been cheated during the electoral exercise. Despite the loss, he has continued to speak about political issues and the role of entertainers in Uganda’s leadership.
