The cremation and public viewing of renowned Ugandan-American journalist Dr. Shaka Ssali will take place on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, located at 5755 Castlewellan Dr., Alexandria, VA 22315.
The ceremony will run from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
The news was confirmed by NTV Uganda journalist and family member Sudhir Byaruhanga, who announced the arrangements on X (formerly Twitter).
“Family, friends, and well-wishers are invited to pay their respects and celebrate his life,” Byaruhanga shared.
Following the cremation, Dr. Ssali’s ashes will be sent to Uganda and other African countries, in accordance with his final wishes.
Dr. Ssali, best known as the long-time host of Voice of America’s flagship program Straight Talk Africa, passed away at the age of 71, just two weeks shy of his 72nd birthday.
