Ugandan artiste Gloria Busingye, known by her stage name Gloria Bugie, took the stage at Comedy Store on Wednesday, but her performance left much to be desired, with social media abuzz with negative reactions.
With her notable Rwandese heritage, Bugie’s music continues to be overshadowed by heavy criticism of her vocal abilities.
Her performance of her hit song Nyash was widely derided, with Twitter users quick to highlight what they described as subpar vocals.
Comments comparing her singing to “scratched compact discs” and labeling her performance as distracting due to her focus on physical appearance rather than music were rampant.
Twitter Reactions:
Jeff Atkins remarked, “Do y’all remember those compact discs with scratches? That’s how she sings,” while DJ XMO noted, “At this point, you forget that she’s singing and just focus on bums.”
Javira Muhangi expressed his dismay over the nature of the performance, saying, “This show has turned out to be ekimansiro. What are you guys trying to display on the international stage?”
Meanwhile, Isaac Khauka offered constructive criticism, stating, “Producers do a lot to engineer sound of artists. She needs to improve her stage vocals.”
However, others were less forgiving, with Joseph Ruranga quipping, “She sounds better on mute!” and Duke of Seeta declaring, “Until she stops parading her body before music, I will try and listen to her so-called songs.”
Gloria Bugie has faced similar criticism in the past, with accusations that she relies on her physical appearance rather than talent to promote her music.
Some believe her stage antics overshadow her potential as a performer. Sharif Ali summed it up by saying, “Living proof that not every nyash can sing live!”
While the online discourse remains harsh, Gloria Bugie has yet to publicly respond to the overwhelming criticism of her Comedy Store performance.
