Vipers close in on top with win over UPDF FC

StarTimes Uganda Premier League, Vipers SC, closed in on the top of the table following their 2-1 victory over UPDF on Friday.

Allan Okello and Eric Kamabale’s goals in the 10th and 55th minutes were enough to bring the defending champions to within three points and two games in hand on leaders Kitara. 

Bright Joseph Vuni scored visitors, UPDF’s consolation on 71 minutes at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

For relegation threatened UPDF, this was their 14th defeat in 22 games, leaving them second from bottom on  16 points. 

Elsewhere, KCCA came from behind to beat Gaddafi 2-1 in Jinja.

Visitors KCCA went behind as early as the fourth minute when Rashid Mpaata dispatched a penalty home.

But the Kasasiro boys hit back through Etienne Katenga on 31 minutes before goal scorer turned creator, setting up Muhammad Shaban for the winner. 

KCCA moved to 35 points but remained in sixth place, while Gaddafi stayed in the bottom three on 18. Meanwhile, Mbarara and Maroons played out a goalless draw at Kakyeka.
