Museveni Orders Release of Former Speaker Anita Among From House Arrest

President Yoweri Museveni has instructed Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba to release former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among from house arrest.

Muhoozi announced the directive in a post on X on Monday, saying the President had also ordered Among’s release. “Mzee has also instructed me to release AAA from house arrest. We shall do that as well,” Muhoozi wrote, referring to Among by her initials.

Among, the Bukedea Woman Member of Parliament and former third-highest ranking official in the country, has been under restricted movement at her Nakasero residence in Kampala since mid-May 2026. Security personnel from the Special Forces Command and Uganda Police Force have maintained a continuous presence at the residence, controlling access to the property.

The restrictions came as security agencies investigated allegations surrounding the management of Parliament. Joint teams of police, military and intelligence officers also searched properties linked to Among in Nakasero, Kigo, Ntinda and her rural home in Bukedea District.

During the searches, investigators reportedly seized several luxury vehicles, including a Rolls-Royce Cullinan valued at about Shs3.4 billion, a customised Range Rover, Mercedes-Benz vehicles, a Lexus and Land Cruisers. Cash, documents, land titles and other valuables were also reportedly recovered.

The presidential directive could now bring an end to the months-long restrictions on Among’s movement as investigations into the allegations continue.
