Veteran singer Charles Ssekyewa has come out to strongly dismiss claims that his music career declined due to witchcraft, insisting that he is still active in the industry and continues to earn from his craft.

Ssekyewa, who rose to prominence through band music and was once romantically linked to fellow singer Stecia Mayanja, says the narrative that he faded from the scene is completely false.
According to the singer, his absence from mainstream media platforms has been misinterpreted as a downfall, yet he remains fully engaged in music and live performances.
“We are just not in the camera, but I’m still working and I have new music,” Ssekyewa explained. He added that one of his latest songs is already gaining traction online, with over 170,000 views on YouTube.
Ssekyewa also revealed that he is preparing for an extensive country tour expected to last close to 50 days, a move he says reflects his continued relevance and demand among fans across Uganda.
Taking a swipe at critics, he argued that pressure in the music industry often comes from individuals who have yet to achieve meaningful success.
“It’s people who haven’t achieved anything in music that still have pressure,” he said.
The singer further pointed out that longevity in the industry should be respected, noting that established artists like Jose Chameleone have already made their mark and should not be constantly questioned about new releases.
Ssekyewa maintained that despite having a smaller catalog compared to some of his peers, his music continues to resonate with audiences.
“I don’t have many songs, but I’m fine with the ones I have because they are the same songs I sing every day in full places. I can’t spend five days at home without a booking,” he said.
