Veteran singer Iryn Namubiru has shared her perspective on the role of the musicians federation during an interview on KFM Radio’s DHook show hosted by Aggie Uwase.

This comes after the federation stated that it aims to support artists in areas such as mental health, financial constraints, and general welfare.
While acknowledging that the initiative is a positive one, Iryn Namubiru expressed reservations about whether that should be the federation’s core responsibility.
“Artists shouldn’t think that whenever they have problems, that’s where they’re supposed to run to,” she said.
She clarified that although she hasn’t been closely following the federation’s activities, she believes such bodies are not necessarily meant to handle artists’ personal challenges.
Instead, she encouraged artists to take individual responsibility, especially when it comes to financial planning and protection.
“Us as artists should find other ways of protecting ourselves through insurance,” she said.
When asked whether her stance is influenced by her long-standing career—given that many assume established artists are financially stable—Iryn pushed back on that perception.
“Everyone assumes that because you’re a well-known artist, you have money,” she noted.
She emphasized that longevity in the industry does not automatically translate to wealth, stressing that everything comes down to planning.
“I might be earning very little or less than what the average Ugandan earns but I have to be able to plan for it,” she added.
She concluded by urging artists, especially upcoming ones, to prioritize insurance—whether monthly or yearly—highlighting that emergencies can happen at any time and financial preparedness is crucial.
