Pia Pounds has revealed that before her music career fully took off, she briefly worked as an Uber driver while trying to earn a living.
Speaking about her early hustle, the singer said she joined the ride-hailing business in 2016, hoping it would help her make some quick money. At the time, Uber was paying relatively well, and she could earn between Shs50,000 and Shs70,000 a day.
However, the opportunity did not last long after she unknowingly ended up driving a stolen car.
“I did it in 2016 but I didn’t stay long because they stole the car, they scammed me,” she explained. “I got a car from a guy who gave it to me to drive and pay him, sharing the costs, and by then Uber was paying well and you’d make at least 50k, 70k a day. But unfortunately the guy had stolen the car.”
Pia Pounds said she depended heavily on the car at the time, using the money she earned from Uber to pay rent and feed herself.
Despite the challenges, she noted that she was proud of being financially independent during that period and did not worry about being unemployed.
Her troubles began when authorities discovered the vehicle while she was parked in Bunga. According to the singer, two police officers approached her together with another man who informed her that the car she was driving had been reported stolen.
“They found me parked around Bunga and two police officers and one man came to me and told me the car was stolen,” she recalled.
She was then taken to Kabalagala Police Station where she recorded a statement regarding the incident.
Although the experience was frightening, Pia Pounds said it was one of the many struggles she went through before eventually finding success in the music industry.
