Dancehall artist Beenie Gunter got into a fight with event promoters in Abu Dhabi and could go to jail. After doing a performance in Abu Dhabi, where he reportedly caused property damage and got into a physical altercation, reports state that he was arrested at the Dubai airport.
Gunter’s team is urging other artists to draw attention to the seriousness of the situation by spotlighting it on social media. If assistance is not given, they worry that he might be imprisoned for more than two years. Celebrities from Uganda haven’t said anything yet, raising questions about their support.
“Artists, imagine being stuck in a foreign jail for two years,” is the pitch made by Gunter’s team. This is not a lighthearted situation. It ends when authorities make a decision.”
The question of whether Gunter will stay in Abu Dhabi or go back to Uganda only serves to increase the uncertainty.
