Media personality and DJ Etania Mutoni has opened up about her humble beginnings, revealing that she once earned as little as UGX 50,000—and was genuinely grateful for it.
Speaking candidly, Etania shared that while she has never worked without pay, there were times early in her journey when her earnings were modest.
She recalled her days working as a waitress at a restaurant, long before her rise in the media industry, noting that the experience taught her resilience and contentment.
“It wasn’t when I was working on NTV, it’s way before that,” she explained. “I think the more you get money, the more problems come because with my 50k, I was surviving—happily, should I add.”
According to Etania, the small income was enough to sustain her basic needs at the time. She revealed that meals like kikomando would cost her just UGX 2,000, allowing her to stretch her earnings and make ends meet without much strain.
Her reflections paint a picture of someone who found joy in simplicity, even with limited resources—an outlook she says has stayed with her despite her growth in the entertainment industry.
