Music producer Magic Washington has credited Cindy Sanyu as the trendsetter behind the rise and style of many modern female artists in Uganda’s music industry.

While speaking during an interview on NRG Radio Uganda, Washington said Cindy’s impact on the industry is so significant that it is difficult to even rank her among other female artists.
Instead, he described her as the pioneer who opened doors for the generation of female musicians dominating the scene today.
According to the producer, before Cindy emerged with her unique sound and style, many female artists looked up to Juliana Kanyomozi as their main inspiration. However, Cindy introduced a bold, funky dancehall approach that changed how female artists expressed themselves musically and visually.
Washington explained that Cindy’s influence can clearly be seen in several artists who came after her.
“When Cindy came with her kind of funky dancehall style, you find other female artists like Nina Roz and Sheebah Karungi… all these artists, you can see the trend,” he said.
He further emphasized that many of the female artists currently thriving in Uganda’s music industry owe part of their artistic direction to the path Cindy created.
