Veteran Kadongo Kamu singer Kazibwe Kapo has opened up about why he continues to manage his own career despite still receiving performance bookings.

Speaking about the realities of the music business, the seasoned artist revealed that the money he earns from many of his performances is not enough to sustain a full team that includes a manager and other support staff.
According to Kapo, hiring a manager would create financial pressure because the earnings from some shows are too small to be shared among several people.
“I didn’t want to default the manager. If I work for Ugx 800,000, how am I going to share that?” he explained.
He further broke down the expenses involved in traveling for performances. Kapo noted that a manager usually doesn’t come alone, as the team often includes a driver and a DJ, which increases the costs.
“If you have six people in the car going to Jinja, you spend about 200,000 on fuel. That leaves you with 600,000. And sometimes you already received a deposit earlier, so in the end you basically go with nothing,” he said.
Because of these financial realities, the singer says he has chosen to continue handling most of his work by himself. This includes organizing his bookings and even driving himself to performance venues.
Kapo believes that when the income from a job can only reasonably support one person, it makes more sense to work alone.
“If you see that the money you work for is enough for one person, use it yourself alone and earn,” he added.
