Swengere Says Parliamentary Victory Won’t End His Comedy Career

By BigEyeUg Team

Comedian Husein Muyonjo, popularly known as Swengere, has brushed aside claims that his entry into Parliament signals the end of his journey in comedy, insisting he is fully capable of balancing entertainment with public service.

Swengere was elected Member of Parliament for Jinja North constituency on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket in last week’s parliamentary elections, marking a major milestone in his career both as an entertainer and a politician.

Addressing concerns from critics, Swengere revealed that the decision to run for Parliament was not an easy one, largely because many people in society still struggle to take entertainers seriously in leadership roles.

“Deciding to join Parliament was challenging because a lot of people don’t take you seriously,” he said. “Some people even asked me whether I would end up like Hilderman and other artists who joined Parliament in the past and were later branded ineffective.”

Despite the skepticism, Swengere remains confident and says his comedy career will continue uninterrupted. He confirmed that he will keep producing his popular skits that air on Bukedde TV, noting that the media house offered him a fresh contract just before the campaign period kicked off.

The good thing is that before we even started campaigns, Bukedde TV offered me a new contract which I intend to execute,” he revealed.

Drawing from experience, Swengere pointed out that he has previously managed to juggle leadership and entertainment without compromising either. In the last term, he served as a councillor while actively creating and performing comedy skits.

Since I managed to balance both roles then, I will be able to do the same in Parliament,” he said confidently.

With his victory now secured, Swengere says he is ready to represent the people of Jinja North in Parliament while continuing to entertain Ugandans, proving that comedy and leadership can coexist.
