Tanzania’s Electoral Commission has declared President Samia Suluhu Hassan the winner of the re-election with 98% of the vote

Tanzania’s National Electoral Commission announced on Saturday that President Samia Suluhu Hassan won the October 29 presidential election with 97.66% of the votes, securing 31,913,866 out of 32,678,844 cast, amid an opposition boycott by Chadema after key leaders like Tundu Lissu were barred on treason charges.

The ruling CCM party, in power for six decades, faced pre-election arrests of over 100 opposition figures and activists, leading to nationwide protests that clashed with security forces and resulted in at least 10 confirmed deaths.

The United Nations has called for an independent probe into the violence, while the government denies excessive force.
