New York Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani has announced his return to Uganda, the country of his birth, to celebrate his marriage to Rama Duwaji.
The American politician, who has always been vocal about his Ugandan heritage, shared the news in a heartfelt video posted on X (formerly Twitter).
“I’m going back to Uganda. I’m headed there in a personal capacity to celebrate Rama and I’s marriage with our family and friends,” Mamdani said in the video.
Mamdani was born and raised in Kampala before relocating to the United States at the age of five.
Despite his move, he has maintained a strong connection to Uganda, often referencing his roots in his political career and public life.
