Navio Refutes GNL Zamba’s “Hip Hop Slumber” Claims

By BigEyeUg Team

Ugandan rapper Navio has responded to recent claims by fellow Hip Hop artist GNL Zamba that the genre is in a state of “slumber” in Uganda — and that only GNL’s return can revive it.

GNL, who recently came back to Uganda after spending several years abroad, had suggested that Hip Hop in the country had stagnated and needed his presence to be revitalized.

But Navio, one of the longest-standing and most influential rappers in Uganda, disagrees with that notion.

Speaking out, Navio said, “I’m doing my tenth concert, so I don’t know — is he saying apart from a few? I mean, Feffe Bussi had like 15,000 people at the beach, Fik Fameica has done Lugogo a couple of times.”

According to Navio, the Ugandan Hip Hop scene has been far from dormant, citing sold-out shows and consistent activity from various artists.

He emphasized that while everyone has a right to their opinion, GNL’s statement might be misinformed.

“That’s an incorrect statement from GNL, but if he has his reasons, he can lay them out,” Navio added.
