Rapper Gravity Omutujju, born Gereson Wabuyu, is facing a potential legal battle after the family of the late Paul Kafeero accused him of copyright infringement.
The estate administrators are demanding UGX 2 billion in compensation, citing unauthorized use of Kafeero’s iconic song Walumbe Zaaya.
According to a demand notice dated February 11, 2025, the family, through their legal representatives, claims that Gravity Omutujju, alongside Pitaxon, Rinex Music Producers, Kim XP Season 3, and Big Talent Entertainment, remixed and released Walumbe Zaaya Rmx in 2012 without permission.
The family argues that the remix, available on YouTube and other platforms, contains key elements of the original song, including its lyrics, beats, and even Kafeero’s voice.
They insist this is a blatant violation of copyright laws, accusing the rapper and his team of unauthorized reproduction, adaptation, and commercial exploitation of Kafeero’s intellectual property.
The notice further warns that if Gravity Omutujju fails to comply within five days, legal action will be taken, which could lead to financial penalties and reputational damage.
