Vipers appoint Serbian Nikola Kavazovic as new head coach

Serbian Nikola Kavasovic is Vipers SC new head coach, the club announced on Wednesday.

He arrives to a vacant job just a month after the end of the 2023/24 football season.

The six-time StarTines Uganda Premier League champions confirmed the Serbian on a two-year deal, which will see him at Kitende until 2026.

Kavasovic, 48, joins the Vipers hot seat knowing only trophies will earn him his time there.

The Venoms are still reeling from relinquishing their league title last season in which they finished third on the table and in the quarterfinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

“I’m happy to be in Uganda and at a big club like Vipers,” said Kavasovic at his unveiling at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

“I thank the club president (Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa) for the trust he has given me,” he added.

Kavazovic boasts of extensive managerial experience having coached at over 10 clubs and two national teams.

The Serb is a former Tajikistan National football team head coach (2012 – 2013), as well as Sri Lanka’s National senior team between 2014 and 2015.

Still in Tajikistan, he was a league champion with FC Istiklol. He also won the AFC Presidents Cup in 2012 in the same country.

Kavasovic has also previously held managerial positions in Serbia with FK BASK, OFK Zarkovo, Borak Banja Luka and Resniki.

New Radiant FC (Maldives) and Saif in Bangladesh are some of the other teams he coached.
