USA seek redemption under new coach Hayes

USA

After a disappointing Women’s World Cup campaign, USA are seeking a rebound at Paris 2024 with Emma Hayes at the helm.

Paris 2024 is all about redemption for USA. Following their disappointing round-of-16 exit at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™, the most decorated women’s national team in football history underwent many changes, most notably on the touchline with celebrated English coach Emma Hayes replacing Vlatko Andonovski.

Hayes did not take charge of the team until May, so it was Twila Kilgore who took up the reins in the interim during both the Concacaf W Gold Cup and SheBelieves Cup. Both ended in title-winning performances for USA, but perhaps most important was the introduction of many young faces into the squad.

g the players signalling their intent to be the squad leaders for the next decade-plus were Jaedyn Shaw, Korbin Albert and Trinity Rodman. The 18-year-old Shaw dazzled, in particular, during the W Gold Cup with four goals to take home Best Player honours.

That young trio, along with stalwarts like veteran striker Alex Morgan and captain Lindsey Horan, will be looked upon to reignite USA’s fire on the world stage.
