Morocco seek maiden Olympic Medal

Morocco are back in the Olympic arena and looking to progress from the group stage for the first time since Munich 1972.

Twelve years after their last appearance at the Men’s Olympic Football Tournament in London, Morocco are aiming to come back with a bang at Paris 2024.

Moroccan supporters will be relishing the chance to cheer on the Atlas Lions at the Olympics, after having been unable to do so at Rio 2016 or Tokyo 2020. Before then, the country had not missed consecutive editions of the Olympics since failing to qualify for the 1976 and 1980 instalments.

Still searching for their first Olympic medal in football, Morocco will go into this tournament hoping to build on the country’s exploits at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, where Nayef Aguerd and Co became the first African team to reach the FIFA World Cup™ semi-finals.

With Morocco having established themselves as a true force in recent years, the Olympic side will have to handle the fans’ expectations and their hunger to see the national team make it beyond the opening round for the first time since 1972. Wearing the national colours at Paris 2024 is also likely to carry special meaning for the Atlas Lions players who ply their trade for French clubs
