Kenya thump BURUNDI to qualify for U17 Women’s World Cup


Kenya cruised to their first FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup by overwhelming Burundi 5-0 on aggregate.

  • The 16-nation line-up is now complete

Kenya have become the 16th and final team to qualify for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Dominican Republic 2024™. The Harambee Starlets beat Burundi 2-0 in Nairobi to complete a 5-0 aggregate victory that will send them to the global finals for the first time.

Two quick-fire goals in the first half effectively killed off the tie. Marion Serenge, who was on target in the first leg, broke the deadlock, before Valerie Nekesa got the second.

Kenya will now represent Africa at the eighth U-17 Women’s World Cup alongside Nigeria and Zambia. Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, England, Japan, Korea DPR, Korea Republic, Mexico, New Zealand, Poland, Spain and USA will also compete at the tournament, which will kick off on 16 October.
