Irene Paredes cautions Spain ahead of Olympics

  • Spain are looking to add Olympic title to impressive 12-month haul
  • Paredes recently won UEFA Women’s Champions League with Barcelona
  • The 33-year-old centre-back spoke about balancing life as a player and mother

Irene Paredes’ run of success with the Spanish national team began with victory at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™ on 20 August last year.

That success was followed in 2024 with the inaugural UEFA Women’s Nations League title and qualification for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025. If that were not impressive enough, she will play a key role for Montse Tome’s side as they prepare for the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024.

Paredes is a team leader, despite not wearing the armband, and a woman who combines football and parenting – striving to be the best she can in both roles. Next month she will embark on her latest quest with Spain, and tells FIFA that her sights are firmly set on Olympic gold.
