France bank on home advantage is search for maiden Gold

Les Bleues out to thrill home fans and win first medal at Women’s Olympic Football Tournament.

After failing to qualify for the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Tokyo 2020, France will be keen to hit the heights in their third appearance on this stage. Les Bleues will be looking to bring the curtain down on Herve Renard’s tenure in the best possible fashion, with the Frenchman fully expected to step down after the Olympic Games.

Edged out 2-0 by Spain in the UEFA Nations League final in February, France’s performance in the continental competition reflected their progress, with the likes of Wendie Renard, Delphine Cascarino, Grace Geyoro, Kadidiatou Diani and Marie-Antoinette Katoto all shining brightly.

Ahead of the announcement of the French Olympic squad for the Games and the team’s remaining EURO 2025 qualifiers – on 12 and 16 July against Sweden and the Republic of Ireland, respectively – check out FIFA’s full lowdown on the tournament hosts.
