Club Guvnor, one of Uganda’s oldest, most expensive and poshest club in Kampala and Uganda at large had ceased holding business on Saturday nights.
Over the weekend, the administration of the club Guvnor released a statement on social media informing the public that it has ceased the operations of Saturday nights.
The rationale they explained was the sharp drop in bussiness in regards to the club.
The statement clarified that the club was open for private hire for private parties, concerts, product launches, presentations which people would wish to host on Saturdays.
The statement further stated that the club shall continue being open on Friday only for different musical experiences such as with Afrigo band, Oldies, Afro fusion among others.
This statement received mixed responses on social media.
Some stated that they were going to miss Saturday nights because they had professional and experienced DJs. In response, the administration of the Club stated that the club shall be open on Fridays.
However, most of the responses were criticims. Some people stated that they saw this coming because Guvnor has been charging people entry fee and this has been primary to the club’s loss of business.
In Kampala, almost all clubs allow people to enter for free and it’s the drinks they profit on. However, Guvnor seems to be getting double profits.
Furthermore, it has been argued that the club bussiness is not a very lucrative business in Kampala. This is because of the exorbitant prices charged as rent to the club owners coupled with paying workers.
This makes it hard to break even for such businesses.
Back to club Guvnor, given that has its loyal customers, we wish it nothing but the very best.
