On March 31, at Kololo Ceremonial grounds in Kampala, Uganda, Nigerian musician Davido, winner of multiple awards, gave a performance.
The event was related to his enduring record concert tour, which is currently taking place all over the world.
On the other hand, there was internet outrage when it was revealed that Davido had received almost $400,000, or roughly 1.5 billion Ugandan shillings.
The promoters of the timeless performance have come under fire on social media from critics and in-laws who are worried about Ugandan musicians and accusing them of providing pitiful wages to their own artists while charging exorbitant fees to international attendees.
“Ugandan promoters are in a strange space; they should do better than paying all that money to a foreigner and giving your own peanuts,” Alpha Allayinah commented on Facebook.
Talk show host Kasuku, though, agrees with Davido. He says requesting that much money sets him apart from the rest.
“I think they ask heavily to limit some promoters who don’t have money and still want to organize shows. It’s good to maintain the high rates and have a cutoff line,” he said.
Notably, Burna Boy is the most expensive and in-demand artist. He has a $1,000,000 booking outside of Nigeria.”
